Scott Thomas “Seagull” To Broadway

Here’s what Variety is reporting about Kristin Scott Thomas coming to Broadway in “The Seagull,” which she recently did to great acclaim in London:

“Although no one will confirm the details, word is that helmer Ian Rickson’s Royal Court Theater staging of the Chekhov tragicomedy is aiming for a late April berth at a Shubert theater — potentially the Cort, following the limited run of ‘The Homecoming.’

“Scott Thomas played actress Arkadina in ‘Seagull’ last winter at the Royal Court, where Rickson’s production of Christopher Hampton’s new translation of the play scored strong critical praise.

“No further casting has been nailed down for the Gotham incarnation; one option is a mostly new ensemble of American thesps. Chiwetel Ejiofor starred as the writer Trigorin opposite Scott Thomas in London.

“Rialto revival is the third ‘Seagull’ of the season in New York. Ian McKellen is appearing in a three-week run of the play in repertory with ‘King Lear’ — both are Royal Shakespeare Company productions at the Brooklyn Academy of Music — and an Off Broadway version starring Dianne Wiest is on the spring sked at Classic Stage Company.”
