Who Should Be Kurt Cobain Next?

Universal Pictures has set David Benioff to write an untitled drama about the life of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. Studio has acquired rights to “Heavier Than Heaven,” a Cobain biography written by Charles Cross. The Widow Cobain, Courtney Love, is on board as an executive producer. No confirmation yet whether the parties involved have locked down the necessary music rights. Meanwhile, now that Michael Pitt has already had his shot in Gus van Sant’s version of the Cobain story, “Last Days,” I’m going to go out on a limb and nominate Ryan Gosling (above left, with Cobain right) for the part. Having already turned in a searing performance as a drug addict in “Half Nelson,” there’s no doubt that Gosling could act the rock ‘n roll role to perfection.
