Will Steve Carell Play Gay Again?

Buried deep inside EW.com’s pretty familiar rehash about why gay themes are much more prevalent on television than in feature films is this tidbit: Steve Carell (pictured) is very interested in starring as slain gay politico Harvey Milk in the movie to be directed by Bryan Singer. The Carell project, however, is up against the fact that Sean Penn has agreed to star in a competing Milk movie directed by Gus van Sant. So the Singer project may never get made at all — which would mean that “Office” star Carell’s turn as a Proust scholar in “Little Miss Sunshine” would remain his only gay feature-film character.
