Dylan Film: Not a Complete Unknown

After months of blatherous build-up, Todd Haynes’s Bob Dylan movie, “I’m Not There,” finally opened today in New York. I’m sure the lines at the one cinema where it’s playing will stretch for miles. Almost as lengthy are the local reviews of the film, especially from J. Hoberman in the Village Voice. I saw this epic, which stars Cate Blanchett (pictured), at the New York Film Festival. Here’s my one-word response: Tedious. And not interestingly tedious. Only Anthony Lane in The New Yorker begins to get at what’s so self-indulgent about this Dylanfest.
