“Gossip Girl” Lures the Highbrows
The CW network says that the “Gossip Girl” series will return in the fall. The announcement was no surprise at all, given the show’s solid (though hardly huge) ratings in its first season, and the fact that the media are besotted with all the starlets and starlet-studs (pictured here) who star in “GG.” What’s a little more surprising: that literary types like Janet Malcolm are extolling the novels on which the series is based, comparing them to “Lolita” and “Anna Karenina.” Donne-moi a break!
