According to Variety, veteran British thesp Eileen Atkins (pictured) has clinched her first BAFTA TV award. The kudos were presented yesterday at a glam ceremony at London’s Palladium. Atkins won the prize despite competing head-to-head with her smallscreen sister Judi Dench, who was also nominated for her appearance in the BBC1 costume drama “Cranford.” Atkins was last nominated some 39 years ago. This story of life in a quaint yet cut-throat English village in the 19th century will be shown on PBS next month. Dust off your bonnets!
