“Boeing, Boeing” Fails to Take Off

Nothing is lonelier than being the only guy in the room who isn’t laughing. This was my existential predicament the other night when I attended the Broadway revival of the ’60s comedy “Boeing, Boeing,” which has gotten some ecstatic reviews. I should mention right now that I am generally immune to farce, or, as I like to call it, “force,” since the jokes and the set-ups almost always feel forced to me. And so it was with this story about an American in Paris and the three stewardesses he is trying to juggle. If you think “What’s New, Pussycat?” and “Love, American Style” and “Austin Powers” are the heights of big fun then you’ll enjoy this evening. Otherwise, stay home and watch “The Office.” It’s funnier and it’s free.
