From “Brokeback” To “The Fly”

Speaking of “Brokeback Mountain,” you will remember that it’s being turned in to an opera by composer Charles Wuorinen. An even less likely movie for opera adaptation was David Cronenberg’s “The Fly.” But its unsuitability didn’t stop the composer Howard Shore and the librettist David Henry Hwang from giving it a go, and their efforts just premiered in Paris. The reviews? Execrable.
