Will Oscar Play the Heath Card?

“Brokeback Mountain” was on Bravo over the long holiday week. I watched; I cried. Heath Ledger was genius, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he won a posthumous Oscar for his turn as the Joker (pictured) in the new Batman movie, “The Dark Knight,” which is getting good reviews. Heath could win not just because he died young and tragically. He could win because the Academy Awards are rarely given for an actor’s greatest performance: Jeremy Irons didn’t win for “Dead Ringers,” he won for “Reversal of Fortune.” Al Pacino didn’t win for any of the “Godfather” movies, he won for “Scent of a Woman.” Etc. If Heath won an Oscar, who would accept it? Christopher Nolan, the director of “Knight”? Not Michelle Williams, the mother of Heath’s daughter. She’s on the outs with Heath’s family. So sad.
