Second Quotation of the Day

“Can anyone say with a straight face that [Sarah] Palin would have gotten picked if she were a man?” That’s from conservative commentator Ramesh Ponnuru, writing in the National Review. (I think we can say with assurance that this is not a question that would be asked if McCain’s pick had been Condi Rice or a Republican Senator like Kay Bailey Hutchison.) Once again, the Republicans show tokenism toward a minority, a theme that Palin reinforced when asked about gay isues not long ago and she quickly pointed out that “I have gay and lesbian friends.” Classic.

P.S. I hope LemonWade readers will excuse all the political posting today. The weekend’s new movies are dreadful, there’s nothing opening on Broadway right now, and the new TV season hasn’t begun. So there’s precious little else to write about except politics, which, as we all know from Obama’s Olympian speech last night, is mostly show biz anyway.
