Streisand Checks Out “August”
Barbra Streisand is just the latest star to have checked out the Broadway play “August: Osage County.” My spies tell me that she is interested in being part of the movie version, as pill-popping matriarch Violet Weston. Hmm: the Jewish girl from Brooklyn playing the rough-hewn Oklahoma grandmother? My response: Not since “Nuts.” My spies also tell me that the movie’s producers most definitely want Streep for the role. But she’s too busy preparing for her movie about “Dewey” the cat — and sorting through about a million other film offers.
