Best Album Title for the New Year

My nominee for most pertinent album title for 2009: “Songs for the New Depression.” It’s not a new CD, of course, but a 1976 classic by Bette Midler. And like many classics, it wasn’t recognized as such at first. My favorite cut on the disc: Bette’s rendition of Tom Waits’s “Shiver Me Timbers.”
