Giving “Push” A Push

mv5bmtkymtu2nzgxmv5bml5banbnxkftztcwnduxndi4mq_v1_sx100_sy133_There are two new movies called “Push.” One is a sci-fi thriller starring the Grand Old Moppet of the American Screen, Dakota Fanning. The other, which is the one that interests me and which just screened at Sundance, is about a teenage girl in Harlem named Precious Jones, played by Gabourey ‘Gabby’ Sidibe (pictured). Based on an unforgettable 1996 novel by Sapphire, the indie “Push” also stars Mo’Nique and Lenny Kravitz. One Sundance reviewer writes: “‘Push’ shows us how a young woman who is nothing but a thick, bruised wall of walking scar tissue slowly emerges, pulling herself out of her living hell.”
