Sondheim Lets Loose With Rich
On Monday, Stephen Sondheim (pictured) was interviewed by Frank Rich in one of the New York Times Talks at the Grey Lady’s headquarters in midtown Manhattan. Sondheim wasn’t shy about his opinions. Some were well-known — he doesn’t like “South Pacific” — and some less so: “The Wiz” is one of his all-time favorite musicals. (Even the movie?) He says — again! — that Bobby in “Company” isn’t gay. He tells some for-the-ages Ethel Merman stories. And, oh, he doesn’t own an iPod.
