Day-Lewis A Priest, Not Higgins?
Variety reports that Martin Scorsese will make “Silence” his next film. He is “negotiating with Oscar winners Daniel Day-Lewis (pictured) and Benicio Del Toro to star. Gael Garcia Bernal is also circling the film, expected to begin production later this year in New Zealand. The drama is set in the 17th century as two Jesuit priests face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and to spread the gospel of Christianity.” If Day-Lewis signs on to “Silence,” does this mean that the actor, who recently filmed the musical “Nine,” is out of the running to star in the new movie version of “My Fair Lady?”
