Here’s how the London press is reporting the upcoming meeting between the American and British heads of state: “President Obama is expected to be granted an audience with the Queen when he comes to London next month for talks on global efforts to tackle the recession.” Don’t you just love that locution? The leader of the world’s most powerful nation has to be “granted an audience” with a woman whose power is mostly symbolic. The Queen has met ten Presidents, including John F. Kennedy (pictured). She somehow missed LBJ.
