“Watch,” “Jersey” Top Oliviers

watchspanThe Olivier awards — London theatre’s equivalent to the Tonys — were presented tonight. “Jersey Boys” won Best New Musical and “Black Watch” (pictured) won Best Play. (Winners here.) “The God of Carnage,” which has begun previews on Broadway with an American cast led by James “Tony Soprano” Gandolfini, won Best New Comedy. “La Cage aux Folles” won Best Musical Revival. God, I hope “La Cage” doesn’t transfer to Broadway: we just had a production, and there are a million musicals better than “La Cage” that are more deserving of the Great White Way. “August: Osage County” won only for Best Set Design.
