Ron Silver Dies At 62

16silver_1901The actor Ron Silver (pictured) died from cancer yesterday at the age of 62. Some of the obituaries I’ve read have focused unduly on his politics; in the wake of 9/11, he supported the Bush administration’s invasion of Iraq and also backed Rudolph Giuliani in New York City. I’m going to remember him for his performances: the movies “Reversal of Fortune” and “Enemies,” and, even more vivid, his stage work in “Speed-the-Plow.” Most of all I’m going to remember him for his corruscating portrayal of rock ‘n’ roll impresario Bill Graham in the one-man show, “Bill Graham Presents,” written by Robert Greenfield and directed by my friend Ethan Silverman. Pace tua, Ron.
