“Les Miz” Lyricist: Susan Is Piaf

Cameron Mackintosh, Patti LuPone, and Elaine Paige have all expressed their views about “Britain’s Got Talent” contestant Susan Boyle‘s rendition of the Les Misérables ballad “I Dreamed a Dream,” so it seems more than appropriate that the lyricist of the song should share his thoughts. Alain Boublil, who, with composer Claude-Michel Schönberg, penned the score for Les Miz, told the New York Post, “I think of Edith Piaf. . . Piaf was a small woman who looked like nothing. And then she opened her mouth, and this beautiful sound came out.”
