Agent Sam Cohn Dead At 79

cohn190Superagent Sam Cohn died (pictured) yesterday. When I moved to New York in the early 1980s, he was still plenty powerful but his star was starting to wane. I associate him with a now-long-gone Manhattan captured in the movies of his client, Woody Allen, a Manhattan of Joe Papp and Studio 54 and the Russian Tea Room. Nobody could accuse Cohn of sartorial elegance (the sweaters he favored were pretty hideous) but he loved the theatre, and for that I salute him.
