Arts Instruction Still “Mediocre”

Music and art instruction in American eighth-grade classrooms has remained flat over the past decade, according to a new survey conducted by the federal Department of Education, and one official involved in the survey called student achievement in those subjects “mediocre.” Money quote: “In music and art, white and Asian students scored higher, on average, than African-American and Hispanic students, females outscored males, and private schools outperformed public schools.”
