It’s OK, Walk All Over Him

14carpet6501Georgio T. (pictured, on the floor), a 48 year-old immigrant from Malta, gets a kick out of people walking all over him . . . literally. Georgio calls himself the Human Carpet, and if you’re lucky enough (or in the right place) you will see him enter the venue that’s booked him, curl up inside a carpet with some padding for his head, and lie on the floor for hours while people walk, dance, jump, and stand on him. At the end of his gig, he simply gets up, rolls up the carpet, and leaves smiling and unscathed. You can read about the details of his evenings on the floor, but for me, a man making money and taking pleasure in being trodden on is a sort of poetic stance against being downtrodden.
