A Kinder, Gentler Iggy?

iggy_popThe godfather of punk, Iggy Pop (pictured), most famously shirtless and rude from his days with The Stooges, is taking a serious turn in his music with the release of his new album “Preliminaires”, which in an Igg-sonian way fits perfectly, as it means ‘foreplay’ in French. The new album is heavly influenced by old jazz greats like Louis Armstrong. Iggy’s voice is surprisingly well suited, being low and raspy and yet strong and gutsy. My personal favorite so far is the single of the album ‘King of the Dogs’ which has a fun, infectious New Orleans Jazz style to it and makes you wonder why Iggy didn’t travel down this path sooner.
