“St. Elmo’s Fire” Heads To TV

John Hughes, the king of ’80s kid pics may have just died, but the spirit of the decade lives on. “St. Elmo’s Fire,” a contemporary take on the 1985 movie that defined the Brat Pack, is headed for ABC. Fun fact: the Hollywood Reporter story to which I’ve linked has a mistake in the first sentence: “St. Elmo’s Fire” did not “launch” Schumacher’s filmmaking career. The first movie he directed was “The Incredible Shrinking Woman,” with Lily Tomlin. Schumacher also wrote screenplays for three ’70s classics, “The Wiz,” “Car Wash,” and “Sparkle.”
