Blanchett Pokes Fun At Her Blanche

At the Sydney theatre awards, Cate was honored for playing Blanche DuBois in “A Streetcar Named Desire.” Her self-mocking acceptance speech: “[Winning] does give me exquisite pleasure to pip the ubiquitous and, in my opinion, the much over-rated Cate Blanchett. I was at NIDA [National Institute of Dramatic Art] with her and she was a shit.” Here’s what La Streep said about Blanchett’s Blanche: “I thought I’d seen that play, I thought I knew all the lines by heart, because I’ve seen it so many times, but I’d never seen the play until I saw [Cate’s] performance.”
