The Incredible Whiteness Of VFair
Vanity Fair’s new Hollywood issue cover features nine young actresses, half of whom you’ve probably never heard of. Considering how sorted the performers are by hair color (each grouping has a balance of blonde and brunette), it’s a little disconcerting how little attention was paid to skin color. It’s 2010 in Hollywood, and V Fair still couldn’t find a non-white actress worthy of putting on this cover? The image looks like a sorority shot, circa 1962. They couldn’t find room for the star of the year’s biggest movie: the gorgeous Zoe Saldana? Or do something unexpected by including an actual Oscar nominee: the refreshing Gabby Sidibe?
