Peter Finch Is Still “Mad As Hell”


New York Times critic A.O. “Tony” Scott deconstructs Sidney Lumet’s 1976 movie “Network.” Everybody of a certain age knows Peter Finch’s “I’m mad as hell” speech. I’d forgotten another sterling moment: when Robert Duvall says to Faye Dunaway, “For God’s sake, Diana — we’re talking about putting a manifestly irresponsible man on national television!” Now, of course, we do that 100 times a day.
