“Mockingbird”: NY Times Errs

Mock-1-articleInlineI’m thrilled to learn in the New York Times that so many parties are planned throughout the nation this summer to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Harper Lee’s “To Kill A Mockingbird.” I only wish that, in its story about the events, the Times had gotten all its facts right. (There are so many factual errors every day in the Times that I’d go bonkers if I pointed out all of them.) The article claims that “Mockingbird”‘s publisher, HarperCollins, has “recruited Tom Brokaw and other authors to take part by reading from the novel…in their hometowns.” It goes on to say that Brokaw’s reading will be July 11 in Bozeman, Montana. But Bozeman is not Brokaw’s hometown. That would be Yankton, South Dakota. How do I know this? Because Yankton, South Dakota is also my hometown.
