“Being Boring”: Perfect Pop Song?

This writer says the Pet Shop Boys‘ “Being Boring,” which turns 20 this year, is the greatest single of all time. I don’t think I’d go that far. Better than “Yesterday,” “Court and Spark,” “Macarthur Park,” “What’s Going On?” and on and on and on? Still, if you haven’t listened to “BB” for a while, you’ll be amazed how beautiful it still sounds. It takes the quietly ecstatic harmonies of Todd Rundgren and marries them to a smooth synth-pop beat that anticipates everyone up to and including Lady Gaga (her slow stuff). Near-perfection.
