Oscars: Christian Bale On The Rise?

gurusbp1203Gurus of Gold, the predictor of Oscar odds, greets the arrival of “True Grit” (at least to journalists) with some solid love. But right now I’m tending to think that they’re wrong that “The King’s Speech” will win Best Picture, and not just because “The Social Network” has started a juggernaut of critics’ awards’ wins that’s going to continue until the end of the year. The Academy votership has evolved, which is why “No Country for Old Men” and “The Hurt Locker” have been winning the top award lately. I expect a similar result for this year, which would give “The Social Network” the Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and one or two more; that leaves “The King’s Speech” with Best Actor, Best Screenplay and possibly Best Supporting Actor, although it’s looking more and more that Christian Bale from “The Fighter” may grab that statue from Geoffrey Rush.
