Super Bowl: Not All-Time No. 1

Cind_1957-157x225Like many of you, I’ll be enjoying the Super Bowl this weekend. I will not, however, be enjoying the morning-after stories like these, proclaiming that the game was the most-watched show in American broadcast history. While it’s true that a viewership of between 107 – 110 million will be the biggest number of Americans having watched a program, as a percentage of the country the Super Bowl will not have drawn the biggest viewership. When the confetti is swept away, that title will still belong to the 1957 premiere of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s musical “Cinderella,” starring Julie Andrews. Here’s why.
