Audiences Didn’t Buy Royal Family

kingsspeechpg13posterI can’t say I’m displeased that the PG-13 version of “The King’s Speech” bombed at the box office over the weekend. The attempt to sanitize this excellent picture (snipping a few “fucks” and such) to make it “safe” for families was pure greed. And the advertising campaign, which excised poor Geoffrey Rush, was nonsense. Any reasonably intelligent 10- or 12-year old who wanted to see this movie with Mum and Dad has already done so, long before the re-release. Meanwhile, I’m pleased to say that the “adult” version of the movie has become a surprise hit in Germany.
