Chinese Crack Down On Artists
The New York Times may claim that the middle class in China is willing to put up with their government’s autocratic tactics as long as their standard of living keeps rising. Artists and dissidents aren’t so lucky. This weekend, Chinese officials continued their campaign of detaining and jailing dissidents and artists in an apparent effort to prevent a repeat of the democratic awakenings in the Arab world. The crackdown reportedly included the high-profile Chinese artist Ai Weiwei (pictured).
