Yesiree, the “Brokeback Mountain” star once auditioned for director Baz Luhrmann, for his “Moulin Rouge” movie, and his try-out number was a Sondheim. No word which song (“Being Alive”? “Move On”? “Ladies Who Lunch”?), but Luhrmann commented, “”Jake should do a musical. He’s a wonderful actor, but [he has a] great voice, tremendous voice,” said Luhrmann. “He sang some Sondheim for me, complicated singing, great voice.
