Your Weekend: LW Recommends

Movies: Don’t know about you, but I’m sick of bridesmaids these days, especially those named Pippa. I’m still willing, tho, to find out whether “Bridesmaids” is in fact an “unexpectedly funny new comedy“? Television: Anyone reeling from the just-announced stepping down of Jim Lehrer from PBS’s daily News Hour should cheer up: Audie Cornish has just been named to a big hosting job on another public-broadcasting network: “Weekend Edition Sunday” on NPR. Books: Steven Tyler’s new tome looks like a must-avoid; Chaz Bono‘s like a must-read. Sports: Will Oklahoma City be the final team into the NBA playoffs? We might find out Friday night. My sympathy is with Memphis — a flooded city needs cheering. Music: The Eurovision song contest — the height of talent-contest kitsch, has its finals on Saturday (an afternoon broadcast across U.S. time zones). Listen live here. Also: I’ve been enjoying the songs from the Broadway musical “The Book of Mormon” more at home than I did in the theatre. Finally: Donate to Mississippi River flood relief.
