Dame Edna Cast In “The Hobbit”

His last stab at Broadway (with Michael Feinstein: the worst pairing since McCain and Palin) has not dimmed his desire to work: Dame Edna Everage has been cast in “The Hobbit,” now being shot in New Zealand. But don’t expect lilac hair and bejewelled horned spectacles, possums. It’s actually the Dame’s alter ego, Barry Humphries, who will be entering the land of Tolkien. The director of “The Hobbit,” the formerly fat Sir Peter Jackson, says that Humph will be playing the Goblin King in much the same way as Andy Serkis created the character Gollum in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Isn’t that precious?
