When I Met Lucian Freud

I met Lucian Freud, the painter and grandson of Sigmund who died this week, exactly once. It was a party, in London, with just a few art-world folks milling about. As I recall, we talked about: Francis Bacon, women’s breasts, Stilton cheese, and a claret whose name I can’t remember. Oh, and Her Majesty (pictured), too, whose portrait by Freud kicked up some fuss. Freud led a messy, high-Bohemian, artistically accomplished life.
