Gaga, Katy, Boys Banned In China

Songs by Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and the Backstreet Boys (pictured) are among the 100 tunes that China’s ministry of culture banned from websites due to “poor taste” and “vulgar content.” The government body has given music websites until Sept. 15 to remove the songs from their playlists or face prosecution, notes The Guardian. The decree also targets unregistered sites and illegally downloaded tunes. Most of American pop culture is in “poor taste,” so I don’t know why China is picking on Gag and Katy. All the same, there are days when I’m flipping the dial and marveling at all the crap on TV and wishing that the U.S. had a ministry of culture to stamp out the sorry stuff ourselves. You expected me to defend freedom of speech?
