As expected, Kennedy Center honors this year are going to to Meryl Streep and Barbara Cook (pictured). Also Sonny Rollins, Yo-Yo Ma, and Neil Diamond. I love all these people, but the with the possible exception of Streep none of them has had the impact in their fields that the honors’ most inexcusable omission has had: Woody Allen. And I say that as someone who has disliked many of Allen’s movies. When Europeans say Americans don’t sufficiently cherish what they have, sometimes they are right.
