Your Weekend: LW Recommends

Movies: Ask yourself: do you really wanna see “Contagion”? Really? Okay. Like this writer, I can’t believe it’s infectious. But it’s certainly star-filled. My choice for the weekend would be “The Black Power Mixtape.” Can ya dig it? Television: Think you can channel surf this weekend and avoid 9/11 documentaries? Not! Among the commemorative casualties: PBS is programming “A Concert for New York” instead of a new Inspector Lewis. Music: Hugh Laurie is apparently one of the most miserable millionaires alive, so New Orleans blues, the matter of his new CD, should be apt. I’m more jazzed for the new Jimi Hendrix compilation. Books: I’m about to read the pantingly awaited debut novel, “The Art of Fielding.” It’s about baseball, but supposedly strong enough to interest those who find the sport yawny. Sports: Can Serena win the U.S. Open? I’m guessing yes. Can anyone stop Djokovic? I’m guessing no. Finally: One of the most eloquent tributes to 9/11 victims of Al-Queda would be to stop further loss of lives in the place where that terrorist group is longer concentrated: Afghanistan.
