“Spartacus” Star Dies At 39

The death of “Spartacus” star Andy Whitfield (pictured) yesterday, of lymphoma, wasn’t a surprise. The actor was diagnosed 18 months ago while preparing for the second season of the show and it had already been announced in January that Liam McIntyre, another Australian actor, would take over Whitfield’s role. Still, for fans who relished Whitfield’s warrior-ish performance and his central role in the series’ over-the-top homoeroticism, the news was sad indeed. Many Hollywood folks agreed.
