Imelda To Sing Mrs. Lovett

Imelda Staunton, whose title performance in Mike Leigh’s movie “Vera Drake” is one of my favorite of the past decade, is about to take on quite a challenge: Mrs. Lovett in Sondheim’s “Sweeney Todd.” “Not a lot of people know that I sing,” Imelda says. But she can, Blanche, she can. In the video above, she sings a Tom Jones chestnut, “Delilah,” in the 2003 flick “The Virgin of Liverpool.”
