Can “Hugo” Go All The Way?

That’s certainly the question I’ve been asking myself as the Martin Scorsese-directed picture keeps racking up a lot of nominations and critics’ awards. “The Descendants” is still feeling a lot of buzz, but the movie may be too small to win the Oscar for Best Picture. Meanwhile, “The Artist” delivers the necessary emotional punch and is French and is about the joy of (silent) moviemaking while “Hugo” also delivers the emotional punch and is set in France and is about the joy of (silent) moviemaking. I can’t remember the last time two movies with so much overlap were the main Academy Award contenders.
