SAG Noms: Winners & Losers

No film has won the Oscar for Best Picture without a SAG nomination in 15 years, which isn’t a great sign for “Hugo,” which has been surging lately but was shut out when SAG noms were announced this morning. “The Help” led the field with 4 noms, which I’m very pleased about. The only big surprise in the acting noms is the inclusion of Demian Bichir from this summer’s little-seen immigration drama “A Better Life.” As for the SAG television nominations, Jessica Lange (pictured) didn’t have to wait long to get one for “American Horror Story.” But she is a great Geezer Gorgon on that show, so I’m happy for her. I mean, how can you not hiss at a character who casually refers to her own daughter as a “mongoloid”?
