“Silence!”: Splendidly Sick Treat

I’m ashamed: I didn’t see “Silence! The Musical“, the spoof of “Silence of the Lambs,” until years after everyone else. Running now at P.S. 122 in New York’s East Village, the production manages to be more creative on a shoestring budget than most of what’s currently on Broadway. What I enjoyed most about the show — besides the terrific cast led by Jenn Harris and David Garrison (pictured), the cutting lyrics, the infectious music — is the way that “Silence!” made me think about the Oscar-winning 1991 movie starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins. I’d forgotten so many details of this serial-killer story, and I’m grateful to “Silence!” for restoring the picture to me. The musical is a great time and well worth putting at the top of your list if you’re in NYC this holiday season.
