“Diner: The Musical”: Really?

The 30th anniversary of Barry Levinson‘s “Diner” is being celebrated everywhere at the moment, starting with Vanity Fair. I must say, however, that I have a little trepidation about the musical version in the works, directed by Kathleen Marshall with songs by Sheryl Crow. The movie, famously, was about “nothing,” long before “Seinfeld” squeezed every joke out of that genre. What the hell can a musical be about?
