“Sparkle” Re-Do Releases Poster: No Whitney

The movie poster for “Sparkle,” a remake of the classic 1976 flick that starred Lonette McKee, Irene Cara, and Mary Alice, has been released. The new movie, which uses the original’s spectacular Curtis Mayfield songs, plus a few new ones by R. Kelly, will be released on August 17th. I’m excited to see the film, but, like you, I’m looking at the poster and wondering: where’s Whitney Houston? She completed filming on the flick, playing the Mary Alice mother figure, shortly before passing away. I mean, it’s nice to see Jordin Sparks, Carmen Ejogo, and Tika Sumpter as the story’s core, Motown-era singing group (and for those of you thinking “Dreamgirls,” “Sparkle” came out first), but Whitney is Whitney.
