Whatever Happened To Jane Withers?
The other day, over cocktails, my friend Bill Schneider wondered, “Whatever happened to Jane Withers?” I’m ashamed to say I didn’t know a thing about her. Even though as a child I’d seen her as Josephine the Plumber on TV commercials, I’d never seen Withers’s classic kiddie films: the debut with Shirley Temple in 1934, and the above clip, from 1942, when Withers was only 16 but sings as if she’s 60.
