“Tootsie” To Become A Broadway Musical
I am a big fan of the producer Scott Sanders, but why, as part of his new deal with Sony to turn movies into musicals, did he have to pick on poor old “Tootsie,” the 1982 classic starring Dustin Hoffman (pictured)? Does Broadway really need another show about a character in drag? Haven’t “La Cage aux Folles” and “Hairspray” exhausted that category for all time? I shudder when I think of the potential “Tootsie” song titles: “Surprise Party,” “The Russian Tea Room,” “Without The Necktie,” “A Weekend in the Country with Julie,” “The Unmasking.”
