Cecilia Bartoli: Vocal Fireworks In Munich

Think that Oktoberfest is the only thing going on in Munich the past few days? Hah! Mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli displayed her vocal pyrotechnics (to match some real-life fireworks) during an outdoor concert in the Bavarian capital the other night. It’s all part of the launch of Bartoli’s new CD, “Mission,” devoted to the music of a little-known 17th/18th-century Italian composer called Agostino Steffani, chiefly known for excerpts from his opera “Niobe.” Bartoli, who isn’t performing much outside Europe these days, paved the way for the CD launch with a series of webisodes, which you can start following here.
